About the SAPC
The UMD Sexual Assault Prevention Committee
The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) is a standing committee of stakeholders on campus who meet monthly to implement and promote the University of Maryland’s sexual assault prevention efforts. The SAPC works to establish and maintain a unified approach to all prevention education and awareness efforts among its member departments and organizations and to ensure a cohesive vision, philosophy, and language for these efforts that is in alignment with national best practices.
The SAPC is led by staff representatives of the University Health Center's CARE to Stop Violence office (CARE) and the UMD Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct (OCRSM).
- Centralized Communication
- Establish and maintain this centralized prevention website
- Establish and maintain campus messaging campaigns, like the current "Raise Your Voice" campaign
- Training and Prevention Education
- Coordinate and evaluate sequential, targeted student trainings
- Provide custom training for first-year students, student athletes, student organization leaders, fraternity and sorority members, and others
- Implement the Step Up! Bystander Intervention Strategy utilizing the 3 Ds: Direct, Delegate, and Distract
- College Action Plans
- Work with faculty liaisons from each college or school to ensure faculty, staff, undergraduate students, and graduate students within their population understand all reporting obligations, training requirements, and resources available to them
- University-Sponsored Events
- Implement one awareness and outreach program each spring semester during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and work to promote related programs throughout the year

The SAPC is co-chaired by the CARE to Stop Violence Office (CARE) in the University Health Center and the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct (OCRSM). Membership in the SAPC includes the following faculty, staff, and student representatives:
